Dept of History

The Department of History was started in 1972 and it was upgraded to the status of Post Graduate Department in 1998. We offer specialised studies such as Archaeology, Gender studies and Historiography, which provide greater opportunities for students. Students completing UG in History can take admission for further studies in Education, Law, and Journalism etc. A student who successfully completes UG programme in History has opportunities ranging from Post graduation in History, Anthropology, Sociology and Archaeology. Post Graduate Department of History has eight faculty members having excellent academic records.

Department had maintained a collection of photos of historical monuments, sites and places for those who are not in a position to visit the same Another asset of the Department is a data bank of reports pertaining to important excavations being held all over the world. Facilities are provided in the department to refer the e- library. A collection of maps is made using department fund collected by teachers for effective transaction of social, political and cultural history. Efforts were made by the department to integrate cross cutting issues such as Gender, Climate change, Environmental Education, Human Rights etc. into the curriculum.

• Women empowerment: Seminars based on women issues such as Rape, honour killing, infanticide etc. • Participation of students in archaeological excavations at Kottappuram, Kodungalloor • Heritage and antique Museum with Portrait gallery • Preservation of an oral history archived in the department • Interactive classrooms • Imparting knowledge to the students from outside the classrooms-field trips to historical and archaeological sites • Smart classrooms with internet facility
