KKTM GOVT. COLLEGE LIBRARY     

The modern college library is working in a new  three floor building situated in a calm and quite place inside the college campus. The library occupies a total carpet area of 13810 sq.ft with spacious stack rooms, reference and reading space. Students, Teaching staff, Non Teaching staff and Research scholars are the users of the library. It is a partially  automated library.  The open source Library Management Software KOHA 20.05 version is used for library automation and Online Public Access Catalogue.  The books are classified using Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme and bar-code labelled. The library will be opened on all working days 9.30 am 4.30 pm.  An average of 50 users visits the library per day.

Building :

The building contains a large stack room, reading area, circulation section, librarians room, technical section, reference section, Info lab 1, reprography room and wash rooms in the ground floor. First floor contains Info lab 2, KKTM Museum, server room, periodical section, stack room and reading area and wash rooms. Two researchers room, and audio visual room, three store rooms and wash rooms in the second floor.

Collection :

There are 36962 books and 15 periodicals and 6 newspapers in the library. Out of these books 1800 above are reference books. Reference section section includes Encyclopedias, dictionaries, text books, reference books etc. which are only for reference. General Books include the subjects Malayalam, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Computer Science, History, Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Public Administration, Engineering and Religion.

Apart from delivering printed resources, the library provides 1,95,000+ e-books and 6000+ e-journals which are available through N-LIST.  Remote access to  e- resources are also available to users.

Services :

Book circulation service, reference service, referral service, reprographic service etc are the services provided in the library. Searching the catalogue is done using OPAC. Back volumes of periodicals are also available. The whole building is under CCTV surveillance. Info lab contains two computer with internet connection. Searching and browsing can be done by the students. There are 4 staffs in the library. Librarian Grade 4, Library Attendant and two library interns.

Two books are allotted for degree students. Ten books are allotted for post graduate students and staff. The book issued for the users for 15 days. After 15 days users should return or renew the books. The two renewals are possible for each book. Fine of rupees one is collected as overdue charge per day.

Further Development :

The library building contains a college museum. This can be modified and developed. RFID technology can be implemented in the library in future. Koha OPAC can be accessed through mobile phones inside college campus in the future. Digital library software D-Space can be implemented in future. The library can be converted to fully automated library.
